There are many aspects of one’s appearance that make them feel consciences. The most common are spider and varicose veins. It is estimated that 45% of adults in the United States are affected by this problem. Those who have spider veins are often too embarrassed to wear shorts, skirts, and swimsuits. Spider veins can not only be unsightly, but they can cause medical problems such as swelling and heaviness of the legs, fatigue, and pain.
Before seeking treatment for varicose veins, it can be useful to understand the cause. In general, varicose veins are caused by abnormalities of the vein valves. To determine the extent of the valve abnormality and what action needs to be taken, the technician will perform what is known as a duplex ultrasound scan. This can is non-invasive and most insurance companies will cover the cost.
If the technician detects valve abnormalities, you may be eligible to qualify for endovenous laser treatment. This treatment is an outpatient procedure that corrects the abnormal valves. Once the treatment is complete, the appearance and symptoms of your varicose will significantly diminish. Spider veins, on the other hand, are treated through Sclerotherapy. For spider veins that are not caused by abnormal vein valves, laser treatment is optimal.
Spider vein treatment in Shrewsbury that removes small and large spider veins. This procedure needs to be done only a few times before results are seen. Technicians use their superior knowledge of anatomy and plan treatment in order to provide you with the best outcome possible.
During the procedure, technicians will utilize laser technology and injection sclerotherapy. The procedure begins with the application of ultrasound gel to the treatment area. The technician will then apply “pulses” to the treatment area. To minimize discomfort, cool air is blown on the area. Every treatment can take anywhere between 15-20 minutes and treatments are performed at intervals of 4 t o12 weeks. Injection sclerotherapy is another treatment solution where the technician injects solution into the veins. This causes the veins to wither and be removed by the body. While a needle is used for sclerotherapy, it is a nearly painless procedure.
Nearly anyone is a good candidate for spider veins treatment. The main qualification is that your veins need to be less than 5mm in size. In addition, it is important to understand the risks, cost, and time investment involved in attaining the full benefit of the procedure. The technician will always do their best to provide you with the optimal outcome, but it is also imperative to have realistic expectations.
For those who have underlying problems with deeper vein valves or for those who have larger veins, the procedure may not be the option. In addition, women who are pregnant, or those who take aspirin, blood thinning medications, or who have medical conditions that prevent the blood from clotting properly should not have the procedure.
